Baked oatmeal recipe casserole is a very healthy and nutritious dish that will appeal not only to adults, but also to children. It cooks quickly enough, so it can be a great alternative to the usual oatmeal for breakfast.

For cooking, it is better to use oatmeal, known to everyone under the name “Hercules”, and not instant cereal. It is healthier and more palatable. As a liquid base for a casserole, any milk (cow, goat, coconut or oatmeal) or cream is suitable.

For a change, oatmeal casserole can be supplemented with some delicious additions such as nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts or peanuts, cashews or almonds), sunflower seeds, pumpkin or flax, fresh, frozen, canned or dried berries and fruits, as well as dried fruits.

Step by step method

  • Step 1

Turn on the oven immediately to heat it up to 180°C. Grab your groceries and let's get started.

  • Step 2

Break the egg into a bowl, add salt, sugar and vanilla. Beat lightly with a whisk to combine the whites with the yolks.

  • Step 3

Pour in slightly warmed milk, melted butter, add baking powder, mix.

  • Step 4

Pour oatmeal into the liquid base and mix thoroughly.

  • Step 5

We leave for a quarter of an hour so that the cereal swells, soaked with moisture. At this time, grind the nuts to large crumbs.

  • Step 6

Lubricate a suitable form with any oil and pour the oatmeal mixture.

  • Step 7

Arrange nuts and dried cranberries beautifully over the entire surface.

  • Step 8

We send it to the oven for about 35-40 minutes (until it is well browned).

  • Step 9

We take out the form from the oven. Let it stand for ten minutes, then cut into portioned pieces and serve warm.

Tips & variations

  • Oat flakes do not need to be pre-rinsed with water, as they are already sold ready-made. It is enough just to pour them into a bowl and pour water or milk.

  • The flakes need to be given a few minutes to soak in the liquid and swell slightly.

  • For a more crumbly casserole, add a little more milk.

  • As auxiliary ingredients, you can use fruits such as apples, bananas, pears, plums, as well as berries: raspberries, strawberries, currants.

  • To make a sour casserole, you can add a little lemon juice or a few crystals of citric acid to the base.

  • By the way, oatmeal casserole does not have to be made only sweet. You can go a little crazy and add hard cheese, finely chopped sausage and even some vegetables to the base.
