Every Ukrainian knows and dearly loves the Potato cake recipe. It got its name due to its resemblance to this vegetable.

Making a cake is easy. If you have butter, cookies, condensed milk and cocoa on hand, you can proceed. After a couple of hours, you can treat yourself and your family to a delicious treat.

Step by step method

  • Step 1

    Crush the cookies into small crumbs using a crusher. You can also use a blender to crush cookies. This recipe uses baked milk cookies, but any other cookies can be used for cakes.

  • Step 2

    Wash the walnuts thoroughly under running water and dry in the oven. Grind nuts with a knife or blender.

  • Step 3

    Pour nuts into cookies and mix well.

  • Step 4

    Add cocoa powder to the nuts and mix again.

  • Step 5

    Melt butter.

  • Step 6

    Gradually pour it into the resulting mixture and mix.

  • Step 7

    Then also slowly pour in the condensed milk.

  • Step 8

    After adding all the condensed milk, knead the dough with your hands so that all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed and evenly distributed.

  • Step 9

    From the resulting dough, form cakes in the shape of potatoes and put on a tray or plate, cover with cling film and refrigerate for 2 hours.

  • Step 10

    After a few hours, serve the cakes to the table, optionally rolling them in cocoa powder and decorating with butter cream. To prepare the butter cream, beat with a mixer 50 g of slightly melted butter, and then pour in 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and beat until a homogeneous fluffy mass is obtained.

  • Few people know that this cake was originally made from the remains of pastries and confectionery crumbs. This did not prevent Potato cake from winning the hearts of the sweet tooth and turning into a popular dessert.

  • Butter is one essential ingredient in Potato cake. It is the basis for the cream, which is mixed with cookies during the preparation of the cake.

  • The cake will be even tastier if you add vanilla. It can be vanilla sugar, ground vanilla pods, vanilla essence, vanillin.

  • Want to spice up your treats? Add a drop of cognac. It gives the cake a tart taste and exquisite notes.
