Step by step method

  • Step 1

Clean the mackerel. Cut off the head and tail, as well as the fins. Then, with a sharp knife, cut along the body. Remove the spine and all bones.

  • Step 2

Salt the halves and sprinkle with lemon juice. Leave for 20 minutes. Then fry in a grill pan in a small amount of oil. To make the fish fry better, lightly press it with a spatula to the surface. And try not to overdo it. 5-6 minutes over high heat is enough, because you will still bake it.

  • Step 3

Put the fried fish on a baking sheet greased with vegetable oil.

  • Step 4

Cut the onion into half rings and fry in the oil left over from the fish. Cut the tomatoes into circles, rub the cheese on a grater.

  • Step 5

Brush the fish with sour cream. Put tomatoes on top, then fried onions, sprinkle with grated cheese. Send to the oven.

  • Step 6

As soon as the cheese is browned, you can get it. Cool before serving. Any side dish is suitable for such a dish, and do not forget about fresh vegetables.

Tips & variations

  • Defrost fish on the bottom shelf of the fridge or on the table at room temperature.

  • When cutting mackerel, you need to not only remove the insides, but also completely remove all dark films from the abdomen.

  • The fish will taste better if it is acidified. For this, it is desirable to use fresh lemon juice, but in some cases, table wine, apple, rice or plain 9% vinegar will do.

  • Mackerel goes well with basil. For cooking, you can use both dried and fresh herbs of this spicy herb.
