Tips & variations

  • Stuffed tomatoes are versatile: they can be used as an appetizer or main dish. They can be stuffed and served raw, or baked in the oven.

  • For stuffing, medium-sized tomatoes with dense pulp are suitable. It is important that they are approximately the same in size, and that there is no damage to the skin.

  • Before stuffing, cut off the top of the tomatoes, remove the pulp and seeds with a sharp spoon. So that there is no excess juice in the resulting tomato "containers", they must be placed on a plate "upside down" and left for a while. After that, the tomatoes can be filled with stuffing.

  • Stuffing for tomatoes can be anything. For example, from cheese, cottage cheese, shrimp, sausage, ham, mushrooms, vegetables, nuts, boiled meat, smoked and salted fish. You can mix several ingredients or use just one. To make the dish more juicy, add mayonnaise or sour cream to the minced meat. If you are going to bake stuffed tomatoes in the oven, sprinkle them with cheese on top - and a delicious crust forms on them.

  • Any cheese is suitable for this dish - hard, semi-hard, soft, such as mozzarella. The main thing is that it should be tasty, of high quality, without substitutes for milk fat and melt well.

Tomatoes with ham are a very tasty dish. I do this very often. I call it a salad. Cheese is mandatory, garlic and instead of sour cream or mayonnaise or sour cream with lemon juice. Be sure to add herbs and finely chopped green onions. Such a dish is a good place for imagination. I want to do the same with cheese instead of cheese.
