Potato cakes with cheese are liked not only by adults, but also by children. And all because they have a very unusual potato-creamy taste. You don’t have to make a special puree to make potato cakes – you can use leftover potatoes from lunch or dinner.

To make potato cakes the first time, you need to follow some important tips:

  • You can add spices to taste and chopped herbs, for example, dill, to the potato mass.
  • It is advisable to prepare the puree in advance to reduce the cooking time.
  • To prepare mashed potatoes, it is enough to boil the potatoes, add a little butter and milk to it, and crush everything.
  • If desired, lightly fried onions can be added to the dough.

These cakes are best served hot. Then inside they will be soft and a little viscous. When it cools, the cheese will also harden and will not be so tasty.

Step by step method

  • Step 1

We rub the cheese on a coarse grater and take out the pre-prepared mashed potatoes.

  • Step 2

We mix products in one container.

  • Step 3

We also send one raw egg and a couple of tablespoons of flour there.

  • Step 4

Mix the mass with a spoon. Pour 300 g of flour on the table and knead the dough, which we divide into 6 equal parts.

  • Step 5

We roll each part with a rolling pin into a layer the size of a pan. Pour a little vegetable oil into the pan and spread it on the bottom.

  • Step 6

Put the cake in the pan and fry on both sides until golden brown.

  • Step 7

We spread the finished products on a plate and generously grease the surface with butter.

  • Step 8

In a bowl, mix sour cream, crushed garlic and adjika through a press. As a result, we get a spicy sauce.

  • Step 9

Ready-made potato cakes are ruddy and appetizing. For convenience, they can be rolled up and dipped in hot sauce. If you do not like this sauce, you can serve it simply with sour cream or ketchup.

Tips & variations

  • You can experiment with cakes, for example, add finely chopped and fried mushrooms, a little grated carrot and other products to them.

  • Potato cakes can be fried in a pan without adding vegetable oil. All the same, their surface is then smeared with butter, so they will not be dry.

  • It is important to sift the flour to saturate it with oxygen. Then the pastries will turn out airy and will rise well when baking.

  • Be ready for the fact that you may need more or less flour than indicated in the recipe. Focus not on the amount of flour, but on the desired consistency of the dough.

  • Potato cakes are a simple and budget dish. You can serve cakes with second courses or eat just like that. Enjoy your meal! Get it and try it - you won't regret it.

I really like potatoes. Cooking it quickly and simply. What an appetizing result you got. I would add fresh greens to the dough. I think it will be even tastier. Potato pancakes are delicious to eat with red fish.
